I experience anxiety semi-regularly. These days, who doesn’t?
I’m beginning to think that the skill of keeping our heads clear from the ever- increasing chatter within is going to be the defining skill of our civilization as we continue to grapple with both the increasing pace of reality shifts and the burgeoning information available about those shifts.
We must learn to operate with a clear head and a purposeful heart when the world appears to be falling apart around us.
So how do we do that? If I had a fool-proof method, I would be far more wealthy than I am right now.
But this works sometimes: I ask myself, ”How would it be if I could just relax about this right now?” How would I feel? How would my experience be different?
This kind of perspective shift, when I remember to use it, puts my mind back in a place of assurance, knowing that things are working out precisely as they should. It starts to put my trust back in the Universe.
I didn’t think of this myself, but learned it from a coach that I loved working with. And this little question helps me envision a different world, a different experience for myself — one in which I am not rocked by the shifts in my world. One in which I am confident that my abilities can make the best of any situation the fates may care to hand me. It is a first step to resilience.
My very best,
Philip
PS: It’s funny how practicing a piece I wrote reminded me of this. I’m working on a new practice regimen with some deep spiritual impact, and I can’t wait to share more about it. -psa
