Good morning and happy Friday, and happy Christmas Eve if you’re celebrating.
Since yesterday I blathered on a bit about how great Bandcamp is, I thought I would send you a few of my favorite artists on the site, to give you a place to start.
Let’s start with opiuo, a Kiwi EDM producer. The dude’s music has the swagger. Every piece is an audio smack in the face (that’s a compliment) but I really love that he scored some of his more popular pieces for a 20-piece band and put on a live show at Red Rocks Amphitheater—the recording is a one-of-a-kind piece of music.
We should really talk about Slow Meadow. Matt Kidd creates acoustic/electronic ambient masterpieces compositions that move with such grace. This is my favorite music by far to write my morning pages. Favorite album so far is Happy Occident.
A third one is Gareth Coker, a British game soundtrack composer working out of Los Angeles. I’m not a huge gamer, but his score for Ori and the Will of the Wisps is otherworldly and achingly beautiful.
I haven’t even scratched the surface, but alas I have presents to wrap.
My very best,
Philip
PS if you’re only going to pick one to listen to, pick the one I named this post after: Happy Occident.
And me over here outta mushrooms 🤷🏼♀️ Happy Occident definitely my choice too, didn’t love the piano in there but listening on a phone probably doesn’t do it justice. Groovy Philip! Merry Christmas!
