I believe that we humans exist in one of two basic states at all time: love and fear. I know I’m not the first to espouse this view.
I’ve been discussing creative fears, and yesterday I had a whole post about how being head-down in our creative process can help us move through the fears that can stop us in our tracks.
I didn’t send it, though. And I think the reason I had such a hard time hitting the “Publish” button was the fact that there is a deeper truth at work here that I need to bring up.
If we can choose between love and fear, and I know we get that choice a thousand times each day, then we can choose between love and fear in our creative work as well.
Just as Heaven created all of nature, including us, in an act of supreme love, so we take on the attributes of the Divine when we create, and do so in Divine love. We get to choose between fear and love every time.
Sometimes that love is enough to get us past the fears that plague us. Sometimes it isn’t, and we need process, we need things to distract us.
But one way or another, it all comes down to love. When you bring something new into the world, you are celebrating your humanity, your inner Divinity, and expressing the deepest love for all of humankind.
So we can talk about processes and different hacks to try to get us past the sometimes paralyzing fear. Let us talk about whatever it takes to get us to the place where that Divine love, creation itself, flows out of us so fluidly that creativity stops being something we do and becomes part of who we are.
My very best,
Philip
